51-Year-Old Woman Gets Her Life Back After Advanced Minimally Invasive Fibroid Surgery at KIMS Hospitals, Thane
Thane, July 15, 2025
For over a year, a 51-year-old woman was silently battling a host of symptoms: heavy menstrual bleeding that lasted unusually long, constant bloating, and frequent urges to urinate. The discomfort was not just physical; it had begun to take a toll on her emotional well-being, daily routine, and overall quality of life.
When she arrived at KIMS Hospitals, Thane, she was weary and desperate for relief. A thorough clinical examination revealed that her uterus was abnormally firm and enlarged. To understand the root cause, the medical team led by Dr. Sujata Rathod, Senior Consultant – Obstetrics and Gynaecology, advised a detailed ultrasound.
The scan confirmed the presence of multiple fibroids, both intramural and subserosal, causing the uterus to swell in size. After carefully evaluating her case especially considering that she was perimenopausal and had completed her family Dr. Rathod and her team recommended a Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH) along with Bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy. This minimally invasive procedure would help remove the fibroid-burdened uterus and improve her quality of life without the risks of open surgery.
What made this case significant was the surgical approach. Instead of a large abdominal cut, the team performed the procedure laparoscopically, using tiny incisions and advanced instruments. This ensured:
- Minimal scarring
- Less blood loss
- Reduced post-operative pain
- Shorter hospital stay (most patients go home by Day 2)
- Quick return to normal routine often within a week
Despite her discomfort and the fear many women feel around gynaecological surgeries, the patient put her trust in the KIMS team. Her courage, combined with the precision and care of the doctors, led to a smooth and successful surgery. Images from the procedure revealed extensive fibroid growth, which was safely removed.
“She made a remarkable recovery,” said Dr. Sujata Rathod, one of the best gynecologist in Thane. “It’s always heartening to see women reclaim their health and confidence after such life-limiting conditions. Fibroids are common but treatable, and with minimally invasive techniques, recovery is quicker and easier than ever.”
Today, the patient has resumed her regular life free from pain, discomfort, and fear. Her story stands as a reminder that timely intervention, skilled hands, and patient-centric care can help women live healthier, happier lives.
